Norman Hunt

Norman Hunt joined Tower Hill Insurance as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) in August 2024.
My first job in the insurance industry was selling personal auto insurance in Florida while I was just starting out in college. I held a 4-40 license during that time, until I moved into Tech (aka Systems, a less modern label for Tech), which was my major in college at the time. I also took several courses from The Institutes where I earned the associate in insurance designation and completed two of the ten requirements for the CPCU. My start in insurance helped shape the way that I look at Tech and specifically Cybersecurity, which is risk-based.
The culture of Tower Hill is why I came. The tough part about coming to a new organization is the chance you take on with what you observe and learn through the relatively brief interview process and how much of that is the reality once you arrive. I can confidently say that I am overwhelmingly pleased with the warm welcome, helpful nature, and sense of community that I have seen firsthand at Tower Hill in my first month; it’s what was most important for me when choosing this role.
“Cybersecurity is a team sport, so I need to know the field, the players, and our opponents well to help ensure we have a winning game plan.”
The level of care and commitment I have seen from colleagues to help advance our purpose, especially the level of integrity and transparency, has been fantastic. I have had to reach out to so many people in my few weeks here, and everyone has been pleasant and helpful. The support and care to help me get up and running, get information I need, and follow-ups when people say they will have been outstanding and fully across the organization.
After 28 years at the same organization, things can become rote. In my new role at Tower Hill, I enjoy learning about Tower Hill’s business, our customers, and the people doing the work, so I can determine how to align our cybersecurity strategy, our policies, and program to help enable everyone to do their jobs while ensuring visibility of risks and ensuring they are managed within established tolerances.
During my first few weeks here, I’ve been surprised by how open to an outside perspective everyone has been. I have seen unhealthy culture where outside views or ideas were not welcome, so it caught me off guard to see how open everyone is to alternative ideas. That speaks volumes about the maturity and culture we have, and I will do all I can to protect and cultivate it further.
